La Casona de Castilnovo is situated in Valdesaz (Segovia), a small village between Pedraza and Sepúlveda, 14 km far from each one. Valdesaz is part of the Castilnovo County with other 3 small villages. Its origin is due to the Castilnovo Castle, which is 1 km far from the village and was built between the XII and XV centuries, in mudejar style.
The catholic kings bought it, with the surrounding land, to create the county for one of their granddaughter Juliana Ángela de Velasco y Aragón, first Countess of Castilnovo in 1.557.
The walk to the castle is one the main sights of La Casona, but there are plenty of them.
From the house, you can reach different forest tracks that cross – adjacent fields and forests, being perfect for walks and excursions on foot or by bike. In fact you can go walking till Pedraza through them, it’s only 14 km.
Pedraza with its cultural and gastronomic offer is one of the charming villages in the region.
Sepúlveda and the Duraton river gorges are others sights nearby, and they are also 14 km far from the house. The national park is the perfect place to a wide variety of outdoor activities such as trekking, riding and canoeing.
Riaza and the Riaza river gorges national park are others sights, 30 km far from the house. From there you can visit astonishing places such as Ayllón, Maderuelo and the river gorges.
La Pinilla ski station is another sight during the winter, and is also 30 km far from the house.
Segovia and its surroundings is a good option, 50 km far from the house. The cultural offer and its famous sights is the perfect plan for a day trip. The aqueduct, the Alcázar, the Cathedral and its proximity to the royal sites of La Granja and Riofrio justify spend at least one day.
For wine lovers, Ribera del Duero appellation is another option. Aranda de Duero is 65 km far from the house and can be an option for another day trip.
